W HOTEL AL HABTOOR CITY: DUBAI

23-24/09/16

WHY YOU SHOULD VISIT:

  • To taste the delicious food at the hotel's restaurant Namu
  • For the cool space-age interiors
  • To look out across Dubai from the floor to ceiling windows
  • Enjoy sleeping in an uber modern circular bed!

For our second and final stay in Dubai, we were moving hotel’s just around the corner to the W Dubai, also situated in Al Habtoor City. After two days in the St. Regis, I knew staying at the modern and almost space-age W Hotel was going to be an entirely different experience but it was one I was looking forward to. We were swapping sereneness for party time!

After being escorted from of our Bentley’s for the last time (I was going to miss that!), we were welcomed into the W by the hotel’s manager who was immediately friendly, and from his cooler and more casual outfit, I knew this hotel was going to be a more relaxed affair.

We were shown around the hotel, which is decorated largely in black with pops of bright colour amidst futuristic style furniture with bold shapes and textures. The bedrooms were brighter in colour, largely decorated in white but with bursts of pink and yellow LED style lighting, and were visually impressive with a very cool circular bed taking centre stage.

The hotel, like the St. Regis, has an outdoor pool on a high-up floor and I was pleased to see the space-age furniture continued outdoors with pod style sun loungers.

After filling ourselves up with brunch at St. Regis, I was pleased that in the evening we had a relaxed plan to sit enjoying cocktails and canapes in the W Lounge. The whole area had a party feel to it with a DJ playing loud music and lots of guests from the hotel’s brunch were still continuing the weekend celebrations. The cocktails were really unique and the two I sampled tasted delicious.

Following a good night’s sleep in my round bed, I awoke and headed down to the Level Seven for breakfast. There were a wide variety of dishes available, including homemade juices and smoothies, breads and pastries, meats and cheeses and a range of eggs including an omelette station and Sous-vide eggs, which I’d not seen before. I enjoyed some sourdough toast with mushrooms and tomatoes and some cheese and a thirst-quenching watermelon juice along with a perfectly made cappuccino.

After a day out exploring, I was glad to have some time to chill out in my room that evening before dinner in the hotel’s Japanese and Korean restaurant, Namu. Situated above the bar, the view from Namu looking out over the city lights of Dubai is impressive and the restaurant features different open cooking stations offering Japanese dishes, Korean dishes or Sushi at each one. We were being brought a selection of dishes to taste and I couldn’t wait as it all sounded delicious.

I have to say, it is probably the best Japanese food I’ve had in a long time and the sushi was extremely well made and I loved the use of more unusual flavours such as Wagyu Beef and Tempura Asparagus Roll. We tucked into dishes such as Soft Shell Crab Roll, Miso Cod, Vegetable Bimimbab and Tuna Sashimi, which literally melted in the mouth and was wonderfully fresh. I enjoyed everything absolutely everything and the service at Namu was really attentive. It was a relaxed and incredibly enjoyable meal and the perfect last evening in Dubai.

If you are looking for a hotel with a youthful and modern approach then the W Hotel is the one for you. The futuristic interiors are completely unique and are fun whilst creating a relaxed atmosphere. Namu is a destination in its own right and you should definitely book in to taste a meal here.
