DESTINATION:

Back in August, I visited Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick with my Mum for a few days away. On our first night in Warwick, we stayed in The Globe which is a pub with hotel rooms attached to it central located near the shops and Warwick's big attraction, the castle. The hotel doesn't have parking but we pulled up outside on arrival and the hotel directed us to the nearest public car park which is just down the hill.

DECOR:

I was really excited to visit The Globe after looking at the fantastic images on the website of modern rooms with a well-styled front full of green plants and rattan chairs. I'm not sure why, but I wasn't expecting the hotel to be on such a main road and even though it looked as expected, it didn't have quite the relaxed feel I was expecting looking out onto the traffic.

We were staying in a ground floor room to the back of the hotel and whilst this meant we avoided any traffic noise, it did unfortunately feel quite dark and dingy and it wasn't the spacious room I had been expecting. The room had modern furniture and was clean and tidy but I must admit, I did feel a little deflated when we first arrived as it didn't match what I'd been expecting.

The room featured a Nespresso machine, but lacked a kettle, so we had to ask the restaurant to bring us a pot of hot water in the morning which they were happy to do. I personally think both should be offered in the rooms. The beds were really comfortable and we had a good night's sleep, but there was a bit of a design error in that the light switch was behind my bed, so if I sat against the wall it flickered the light on and off!

The bar and restaurant, which are just off the hotel, are in a light glass fronted building and are really spacious with modern chairs and sofas and a cool log burner in one corner.

DINING:

We were sampling both dinner and breakfast at The Globe and were booked in for a three-course meal the night we arrived. We were seated in a spacious window booth and there was a nicely chilled bottle of Picpoul De Pinet waiting for us on arrival, which started the evening off well!

DINNER:

Starters: Gambas Pil Pil (£7.50) and a special starter of Taleggio Tart with Blackberry Compot and Rocket

Mains: Pollo Picante with Roasted Marzanino Tomatoes, Dressed Rocket and House Fries (£15.50) and a special of Salmon with Crushed New Potatoes, Kale and a Caper Butter Sauce

Desserts: Vanilla and Raspberry Cheesecake and Toasted Belgium Waffle (both £6.50)

The prawns were cooked well and came in a garlicky tomato sauce with some bread on the side to soak this up. The tart was a pleasingly delicate starter and the cheese worked really well with the tart blackberries.

The chicken was half a boneless chicken and was a really generous portion which was cooked and spiced well and the fries were crisp yet fluffy and perfectly salted. The salmon was delicious and the caper butter sauce brought the whole dish together.

We were quite full but decided to finish the meal with a pudding each and were presented with two large portions which we struggled to finish! The cheesecake was particularly good with tangy raspberries and a fruity sorbet.

The service throughout the meal was great and we had a lovely waiter who was attentive, friendly and knowledgable.

BREAKFAST:

The Globe has a really unique breakfast menu with lots of choice and we took a while to decide what to order as there were so many delicious sounding options. The breakfast buffet was a little light, which we weren't too disappointed with as the a la carte menu sounded so good, but it was a shame they'd almost run out of fresh orange juice meaning we could only have a small amount  each.

I ordered the Sweet Potato, Avocado and Feta Hash (£8) and my Mum ordered the Chopped Avocado with Poached Eggs (£7.25). Both were nicely presented and good sized portions and the hash was particularly memorable and it's something I am definitely going to have a go at creating at home! We also had a pot of tea and a Cappuccino each.

The Globe is situated in a really central position in Warwick and the restaurant is somewhere I would visit again with a vast and well executed menu for both dinner and breakfast delivered with great service.
